2015 HKTDC Spring Lighting Fair Closes With Record Exhibitor Numbers

1970-01-01

HONG KONG, Apr 9, 2015 - The 7th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), ended with a record of more than 1,250 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions taking part. The four-day fair (6-9 April) welcomed over 19,000 buyers from 112 countries and regions, up five per cent over last year. Buyers from both traditional and emerging markets converged on Hong Kong to source lighting products, with attendance from the United States up five per cent; Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Turkey, India, the United Arab Emirates and the Chinese mainland registered even stronger double-digit percentage growth.

Hong Kong exhibitor ShenZhen OKT lighting specialises in energy-efficient UL LED downlight/flat panel/troffer. The company has been attending both the Spring and Autumn editions of the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair since 2012. This year, the company showcased its latest LED technology and high performance LED troffer, LED up/down luminaires and eyeball led downlight at the fair, which attracted the attention and interest of many buyers. Allan Zhang, the company's President, considered the Lighting Fair an effective platform to promote the brand, showcase products and connect with buyers. He said he has already met new and old buyers from US and Canada.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau said: "We saw vibrant trading and networking on the fairground and observed that buyers were interested in green lighting products, such as LEDs, as well as smart lighting fixtures." The HKTDC commissioned an independent survey agency to conduct onsite surveys, interviewing buyers and exhibitors about their views on market prospects.

"According to the preliminary results, over 85 per cent of buyers and exhibitors expect overall sales to improve or remain the same next year," Mr Chau said. "The industry is generally optimistic about the prospects of LED lighting products and expects several LED applications to lead growth in areas including Indoor Lighting (Household, Commercial use), Outdoor Lighting and Smart Lighting Systems."

LED Leads

As all three of Hong Kong's major export markets for lighting products; the United States, the European Union and the Chinese mainland, have banned or plan to ban incandescent light bulbs, market demand for green lighting products is on the rise. At the Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), a number of brands and manufacturers offered an array of trendy LED lighting products that are attractive to buyers from different markets.
